Organisation
Q1. What arts activity do you specialise in and where are you based?
A1. Company Fierce Academy is a specialist youth development company that specialises in dance activities for young people in Manchester.

Q2. What benefits and enjoyment do you get out of it?
A2. The major program we run is titled 'dancing to a dream'. We want young people especially those from urban backgrounds to fill their potential as dancers. As a company we enjoy the fact that we can help young people reach their dancing dreams with a guiding hand from us.

Q3. What are some of the biggest achievements of the young people and your organisation recently?
A3. Our young people have gone off to some of the most prestigious dance schools around England.

Q4. Who has inspired or influenced you? (especially Manchester based)
A4. We look to America for our inspiration in dance schools such as Alvin Ailey and Harlem School of Dance. But I must say John McGrath inspires me for his constant passion, push and drive for the arts in Manchester.

Q5. Who has been a mentor to you or supported you in your development and why?
A5. PANDA (Performing Arts Network), Contact Theatre and Zion Arts Centre have helped immensely in our journey. Probably John McGrath from Contact Theatre has been one of the biggest help to Company Fierce. Quarantine Theatre Company has also been pivotal in our growth.

Q6. What advice would you give to other young people interested in going into the arts or becoming arts workers?
A6. Start from the heart. You are shaping lives when working with young people or in the arts. It really is a labour of love.

Q7. What opportunities can you recommend to other young people and youth arts practitioners in Manchester?
A7. If they want to be a dancer/artist get involved with local groups, there are plenty around in youth clubs, after-school clubs and organisations. Or contact Company Fierce Academy or FE'Dance if you want a career in dance or just to do classes, our doors are always open.

Q8. What activities or events would you like to see in Manchester that would help youth arts development?
A8. More development training for young people once they have done one off workshops or our events.  For those that a fire has been lit need a progression route and continued programs, not just twelve weeks here or there. We need to be looking at one and two year plans.

Q9. What are your ambitions in terms of organisational development over the next 5 years?
A9. To have our own premises dedicated to the training of young people in dance.

Q10. What or who might help you reach these goals?
A10. I'm starting with me because that's who going to do the grafting.
