>MADE*, the regional architecture centre in the West Midlands, is delighted to announce the forthcoming symposium Under the Influence (The Power of Young People to Inform Public Space) part of our Creative Communities project.

This unique event will enable us to share practice, explore new areas for partnership working and identify the shared learning needs of professionals in developing sustainable youth engagement in design processes.

The Symposium will be held in Birmingham on 19 March, 9.30am-4.30pm

Venue: The Patrick Centre, Birmingham

Speakers include:

  • Bill Badham, Senior Development Officer, Participation, The National Youth Agency
  • Joost Beunderman, Researcher, DEMOS, The Think Tank for Everyday Democracy
  • Pihla Meskanen, Director of Arkki, School of Architecture for Children and Youth, Finland
  • Chaired by Lindsay Newton Head of Development, Dudley MBC Children's Services

Break out sessions will be on the Olympic Games; Mediascapes; Play; Hear by Right/Community Youth Forums; Urban Design for Artists/Engagement workers

The purpose of the day is to:

  • Explore pathways for young people's participation and involvement in place making
  • Share practice
  • Explore new areas for partnership working
  • Identify the shared learning needs of professionals in developing sustainable youth engagement in design processes

The day will be of interest to community representatives, including housing associations; planners & planning consultants; regeneration, heritage and development professionals; architects, landscape architects, masterplanners and urban designers; artists and arts agencies; town centre managers and local partnership representatives; youth participation officers and community safety managers.

Creativity - a skill for life? is a one-day conference to explore and debate creative pathways towards higher education and careers. Celebrating the Creative Partners for Progression project enables us to:
