2. Upcoming Events and Projects

Bloomberg New Contemporaries

Bloomberg New Contemporaries, an exhibition of the most promising new talent to emerge from art schools across the country is currently on at Cornerhouse. It is the pre-eminent annual exhibition for young artists, enabling recent graduates and fine art students to gain wider recognition and public audiences.

This year's selectors, artists Michael Landy, Nigel Cooke and New York based curator Linda Norden, have chose 37 of the most promising artists from an initial submission of over 1200 applications.

New Contemporaries always provides a great opportunity for the public to see a rich and dynamic selection of work by an emerging generation of artists. As an annual event first established over fifty years ago, New Contemporaries is recognised as the unique platform for new work and many of the UK's most well known artists, including Damien Hirst and Gillian Wearing first appeared in the show.

On until 20 January 2008. For more information go to www.newcontemporaries.org.uk

New Zion Arts Centre Theatre Company

Zion Arts Centre is currently assembling its very first in-house Theatre Company for 14-25 year olds.

Applicants will commit to a year-long schedule where they will have the chance to:

  • get involved in productions
  • attend masterclasses in all art forms
  • learn about theatre administration
  • attend agents'surgeries with the chance of meeting agents
  • receive advice on getting work in the industry
  • find out about theatre ethics

Following some early auditions, there is potential for this to be a great company of positive young actors.

This will be a professional actors company with plenty of opportunity and scope to develop and study the industry in depth throughout the year.
