Participation: The Essential Tools and Resources

Participation: The Essential Tools and Resources is a one day conference that will explore the available tools and resources to support children and young people's participation in a range of settings.

Delegates at the conference will learn how to use tools and resources to improve children and young people's participation. Participants will also be able to discuss specific participation issues through a number of workshops. The conference will be a great networking opportunity for everyone involved in participation.

Refreshments & registration from 9.30am. Conference commences at 10am.

Keynote speech by Peter Wanless, Chief Executive Office of the Big Lottery Fund

Conference presentations include:

  • Involving children and young people in the development of their workforce. Alex Brookes, Participation Coordinator, Children's Workforce Development Council
  • Regional collaboration to promote participation: Promoting positive behaviour creatively. Pauline Smith, SDSA Associate, School Development Support Agency
  • Practical tools for identifying opportunities and planning action with young people. Kirsty Taylor, Lead Trainer, YoMo
  • Mental health - what it means to children and young people in Plymouth. Camille Clearie, Participation Worker, Routeways

Delegates will also have the opportunity to select two of the following five workshops to explore tools and resources in more depth:

  • Getting 8 to 12s involved in decision-making
  • Hear by Right: In practice
  • Ready Steady Change
  • Creative Approaches to Participation with young people
  • Participation within workforce development - beyond recruitment and selection

Launch of the Junior Achievement Award Conference

UK Youth will be holding a one day conference in Liverpool on Thursday 18 September to launch the Junior Achievement Award.

The event is aimed at workers and managers from a range of settings who are involved in supporting children to develop personal and social skills, such as: primary schools, junior youth groups, play work settings, breakfast and homework clubs, residential centres, social services, sports clubs, performing arts groups, faith groups, holiday schemes etc.

The delegate fee is £80 + VAT (£94.00) per person to include afternoon tea, an introduction to the JAA, a summary of the findings of the pilot, presentations from workers who were involved in the JAA pilot, information on how to access the JAA and delegates will take home a pack including a sample of the JAA materials.

Arrival & registration: 1pm. The conference ends at 4.30pm.
