MYAN E-Bulletin: Issue 16: Apr - May 2008 2. Upcoming Events & Projects NOISE NOISE is not your typical arts festival. It has no physical location; the central hub of activity takes place on the NOISE website and across the media - print, television, radio and online - making it the first 'virtual' festival of its kind in Europe. NOISE exhibits the very best in creative talent from people 25 and under - any creative work that can be presented digitally (on screen or on air) including across fashion, film, music, design, architecture, written word, graphic design, fine art and illustration. The NOISE website acts as the gateway to submissions which means that you can live anywhere in the UK (or in the world for that matter!) and it's free to take part. During the biennial festival period, the website becomes the main platform to showcase the best of the work submitted. In addition, NOISE works with the media - magazines, television channels and radio stations to promote NOISE talent via dedicated features, profiles and programmes. The best work is selected for media showcase by a panel of leading creative professionals that NOISE invites to curate - individuals who push forward yhe boundries of their discipline and have left a lasting legacy on the cultural landscape. The panel of NOISE curators in 2006 included legendary designer Peter Saville, British artist Stella Vine and top creative entrepreneur Wayne Hemingway. In this way, NOISE provides a highly accessible and innovative platform to young creatives; offering credible media coverage and the exposure to kick start their careers in the creative industries. To register go to www.noisefestival.com/index.php?option=com_registration&task=register&Itemid=87 You must be 25 or under in order to submit work. If you are over 25 you can still register to be able to select your favourite artists and comment on their work. You can submit up to 6 pieces to NOISE 2008. To be in with the best chance of having your work seen by our panel of NOISE curators make sure you submit your favourite works before 31 May.
Artists in Schools exhibition 26 April-20 July A new exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery showcases artworks by children and teachers from East Manchester schools alongside work by practising artists. The exhibition features the creative results of a number of trial artists' residencies in primary schools. These residencies had been arranged by Manchester Art Gallery in a pilot project that sees practising artists spend time in schools. The sessions have given teachers and pupils the rare opportunity to work closely with professional artists for one, three and four day periods, and even in shorter school assembly sessions. Artists such as Susie MacMurray and Jim Medway have participated as resident artists. The workshops have seen pupils and teachers produce outstanding artworks in a variety of media including illustration, drawing, sculpture and painting. Manchester Art Gallery is now celebrating the creative achievements of the pupils, teachers and artists who have taken part by displaying examples of their work in this special exhibition. The pilot Artists in Schools project has initially been running in a number of East Manchester primary schools such as Varna Street Primary and St Clements C of E Primary. And the good news is that following the project's successful conclusion earlier this year, it is now set to be offered to schools across the city for the next academic year.
